French and Indian War
(1754-1763)
The seven year war was between the major European powers with France, Austria, and Russia on one side and Great Britain and Prussia on the other side. What this war makes them differ from another it began in the New World. It all began because each side hoped to gain trade in Europe. In Europe, Sweden, Austria, and France were allied to crush the rising power of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, wanted that his kingdom the most powerful of German state. This was mainly between French and British struggle in North America.
The reason why the French and Indian War began in the New World involved the Ohio Country. Both the English and the French claimed the land west of the Appalachian Mountains. At a start of the war, there were about 1, 500,000 British citizens and about 90,000 French citizens. The French mostly wanted to trade and trap beaver, not colonize and take over the land while British took over the land, mistreated the Indians and ignore their culture. In 1754 when a 21 year old lieutenant colonel named George Washington was sent to Fort Duquesne in Western Pennsylvania to force out the French. The French had no intention of leaving, Washington returned with British General Edward Braddock, and again the British met defeat. In 1756-1757 the French destroy British force on Lake Ontario. The war went in favor of French until William Pitt took over the British Army in 1758. In 1763, both sides signed the Treaty of Paris and practically French loosing everything.
